An Honest Note About Magento 2 in 2026
We still build and maintain Magento 2 stores, and we still list our Magento 2 pricing on this page because we have existing clients who run on M2 and we keep our commitments. We also want to be transparent about where Magento 2 sits in the broader e-commerce landscape right now.
What we're seeing in our Magento 2 client base:
-
Steady stream of migrations to WooCommerce.
Many of our existing Magento 2 clients have chosen to migrate to WooCommerce over the past 12 to 18 months, usually citing ongoing cost pressure from Magento's plugin ecosystem, architecture complexity, and desire for access to our AI product suite which does not integrate into Magento 2.
-
Adobe Commerce framework evolution has slowed.
Adobe has not kept pace with AI-era rendering and AI-search readiness priorities in their Magento 2 development cadence. The framework still works, and it still powers real businesses, but it's not where e-commerce architecture investment is happening in 2026.
-
Elevated security attention.
Magento 2 sites receive more attempted intrusion traffic per dollar of revenue than our WooCommerce sites, reflecting both the platform's age and its visibility to specific attack communities. We address this through rigorous update discipline, but it means compliance and maintenance require more attention.
New Magento 2 Maintenance Policy
As of our 2026 policy update, maintenance contracts and guarantees for Magento 2 clients now require lockstep plugin updates with the Magento 2 release cycle. Third-party plugins (including Amasty, Mageworx, and equivalents) that fall out of their vendor's year-of-support are not eligible for coverage under our maintenance guarantee.
What this means in practice:
- ›When Magento 2 ships a minor or major release, required plugins must update within the same release window, at the vendor's then-current license price.
- ›Annual plugin-fee exposure on a typical Magento 2 stack is in the $1,300 to $3,000+ per year range, before our maintenance fees, depending on your specific plugin footprint.
- ›Skip-cycle maintenance (previously allowed, then resolved with a single large overhaul) is no longer supported.
- ›Clients who choose to run out-of-date plugins are welcome to do so, but not under our warranty.
Why we changed this policy
The elevated security attention described above means out-of-date plugins create real exposure, and we cannot honestly guarantee a Magento 2 site that isn't current. The skip-cycle pattern was creating situations where clients went two or three years without updates, then faced an overhaul expense so large it created budgeting crises. Lockstep updates protect the client and let us stand behind the work.

For New E-Commerce Projects
If you're building a new e-commerce site (as opposed to expanding or rebuilding an existing Magento 2 deployment), we'd usually recommend WooCommerce on our AI-optimized WordPress stack for most use cases, and we'd be straight with you about why:
- ✓Full AI product suite integration (see our WooCommerce page), including Catori SEO audits and Vigil compliance monitoring
- ✓Significantly lower ongoing cost of ownership (no platform license, no annual plugin ecosystem fees at Magento's scale)
- ✓Open-source plugin ecosystem with custom-plugin escape hatch for anything the marketplace doesn't already solve
- ✓Better AI-search readability on our rendering stack
If you have specific Magento-only requirements (multi-store architecture at scale, B2B with complex tax jurisdictions, specific Adobe ecosystem dependencies), Magento 2 may still be the right call. We'll tell you straight either way during your consultation.
