New vs. Old, Point by Point

Forged vs. WordPress

An honest, side-by-side comparison. WordPress has served the web well for two decades. But the way customers find businesses has changed, so we built a leaner, purpose-built alternative — faster, accessible by default, and ready for how AI search recommends businesses today.

The Short Version

Same Goal, Two Very Different Roads

WordPress A platform, plus plugins

A large content management system with a stack of third-party plugins bolted on to do what you need. Flexible, genuinely capable, and heavy: every plugin adds weight, upkeep, and one more door to keep locked.

  • Heavy
  • Constant upkeep
  • Slower

Forged Purpose-built, nothing extra

No CMS, no plugin stack, just the clean code your site actually needs — written by us and owned by us, so it can be changed by us. Engineered to load fast, stay accessible, and be readable by AI search from day one.

  • Lean
  • Hands-off
  • Built for AI search

The Things That Actually Matter

Ten dimensions a growing business feels in the wallet, the calendar, or the phone that does not ring.

What matters
Forged
WordPress
Architecture
ForgedPurpose-built and self-contained. Only the code your site needs, written by us.
WordPressA content management system plus a stack of third-party plugins.
Page Speed
ForgedWe target 100 on desktop and 90 or higher on mobile in Google PageSpeed, and confirm it before launch.
WordPressTypically 50 to 70, and it slows further as plugins accumulate.
Security
ForgedNo plugin attack surface. A smaller, audited footprint we maintain for you.
WordPressThe web's most-targeted CMS. Core and every plugin need steady patching.
Making Changes (plan)
ForgedEmail us in plain language, or message MOG in your dashboard. No login to learn, no builder to fight.
WordPressLog in and edit it yourself, or hire a developer and wait for their queue.
ForgedA response and a started workflow the same day — weekends included. Simple changes are frequently done right away; heavier work is scheduled with a human auditor.
WordPressYour own time, or an agency's business-day queue. A Saturday request usually means a Monday start.
Accessibility (ADA / WCAG) (plan)
ForgedBuilt to WCAG 2.2 AA and re-checked by Vigil, our compliance agent, so changes stay accountable.
WordPressAchievable, but compliance drifts as the site changes, and re-checking it is on you.
AI Search (AEO / GEO)
ForgedClean structured data and fast load, built in, audited monthly by Catori.
WordPressAchievable, but typically retrofitted with more plugins on top of the stack.
ForgedAn edit. It is our code, so when the signals move we change the site directly.
WordPressA negotiation between your theme author, your plugin authors, and the core release cycle — and any of them can stop shipping.
ForgedIncluded from Forged Basic up, with coverage growing by tier. See what each plan covers.
WordPressNot tied to the platform and not included. You arrange and pay for them separately.
Cost Over Time (plan)
ForgedOne predictable monthly covering build, hosting, the AI team, and support for your plan term. From $79.99/mo.
WordPressHosting, plugin licenses, developer hours, and the open-ended cost of staying patched.
  • WordPress figures reflect typical small-business installations and vary with hosting and plugin count.
  • Forged performance targets are confirmed before your site goes live.
  • Items marked (plan) are ongoing plan services. When your term ends, or you pay it off early, your site and content are yours to take anywhere — minus the ongoing plan services that run on our infrastructure.
Why It Matters Now

Search Changed. Quietly, and Fast.

AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google's AI Overviews now decide which businesses to recommend, using signals that reward fast, clean, accessible sites. Independent research from the past year all points the same direction:

85%

of brand mentions in AI search come from third-party sources, not your own website

Source [1] — AirOps
3x

stronger correlation between brand mentions and AI visibility than backlinks, across 75,000 brands

Source [2] — Ahrefs
28%

of brands manage to be both cited and recommended by AI. Most fall into the gap

Source [3] — Semrush

What AI assistants weigh when picking businesses to recommend: fast load and clean structured data, accessibility, and a consistent presence across the directories AI search reads. A Forged Site is built to meet the on-site signals by default. Much of the rest is earned off your website — which is exactly what citations are for.

Off-Site Signals

Citations: How Search and AI Confirm You're Real

Remember that most AI brand mentions come from off your own website. Citations are a large part of that.

Sumi-e ink art: a single seal stamped repeatedly across many scattered pages, representing one business identity echoed consistently across directories

A citation is any online listing of your business name, address, and phone number — on places like Google Business Profile (opens in a new tab), Bing Places (opens in a new tab), Apple Business Connect (opens in a new tab), Yelp (opens in a new tab), the Better Business Bureau (opens in a new tab), and the large data aggregators that feed all of them.

Search engines and AI assistants cross-check those listings to decide whether you are a real, findable business. One stale phone number scattered across the web quietly costs you calls — and it costs you recommendations from assistants that never even show you the miss.

What each Forged plan covers

  • Forged Lite ($79.99/mo) — no citation package included.
  • Forged Basic ($149.99/mo) — Data Axle and Foursquare.
  • Forged Standard ($224.99/mo) — adds Neustar Localeze and Yellow Pages.
  • Forged Professional ($337.49/mo) — all major aggregators.
  • Forged Pro ($449.99/mo) — all aggregators plus 50 extra directory listings.

Additional directory citations beyond your plan are $2 each, a la carte. On a WordPress site, citations are not tied to the platform and are not included — that is a cost you arrange and pay for yourself. Full details on the Forged Sites plan page.

Said Plainly

The WordPress Problem, Plainly

The way we have started explaining it to clients: WordPress has become what Norton Antivirus was to computers a decade ago. A large system humming away in the background, eating server resources and slowing page loads, doing a great deal of work the typical service-business site does not actually need.

There is an irony in it, too. Getting WordPress to meet modern performance and accessibility standards often takes more effort than simply writing clean code and shipping a lean, self-contained site in the first place. So that is what a Forged Site is: built to meet those standards from the start, and kept accountable every time it changes.

None of which makes WordPress bad software. We have built on it for years and still do — we have a WordPress practice and we will happily keep yours running well. It is a question of whether a typical business site needs an entire content management system underneath it to show eight pages and take a phone call.

Turnaround

Ask on a Saturday. Often, It's Done on Saturday.

This is the part that surprises people most, so here is exactly how it works — including where it does not.

Sumi-e ink art: a human hand resting on the shoulder of a working automaton, representing the human reviewer who checks every change before it goes live

The guarantee: a response, and the work starts

You get a reply and the workflow begins — on a Tuesday morning or a Sunday night, it makes no difference. Not "we'll get to it Monday." That is a promise we make, not a target we hope to hit.

Simple work is often just done

Text changes, image swaps, a new paragraph, updated hours, a corrected phone number, a small addition. These are frequently finished right away, any day of the week, at a high complete-and-correct rate.

Heavier work gets scheduled

Structural changes, new page builds, anything genuinely substantial gets scheduled into business days with a human auditor in the loop. Fast is only worth something if it is also right.

We will not quote you an accuracy number

Plenty of AI companies will hand you one. We are not going to, because nobody can honestly promise they understood a request perfectly. The biggest variable was never the AI — it is how clearly the request was expressed, and that sits on both sides of the conversation.

“I am not even that good. No one on my team is that good. We misunderstand people all the time.” — Eric Donnell, Founder, Idea Forge Studios

A traditional agency has exactly the same failure mode. The difference is the clock. There, a misunderstanding takes days to surface and days more to correct. Here it surfaces in minutes, and the correction takes minutes too. We would rather sell you the speed of the correction loop than a number about perfection that nobody can keep.

A human reviews before it goes live

That is the default, always. Nothing reaches your live site without a person looking at it first. A client who becomes comfortable with the system may opt to be their own reviewer in exchange for near-instant turnaround — but that is your choice to make, opt-in, never a downgrade we impose on you.

Two ways to ask, no login required

Email us in plain language — "update our hours," "add a service page" — with nothing to log into. Or sign in to your dashboard at client.idfs.ai and message MOG, your AI Site Director, directly. The dashboard is also where your traffic, leads, and analytics live.

One client sent three change requests on a Saturday afternoon. Drafts were back before Monday.

Built to Be Retrofitted

When the Ground Moves, We Move With It

AI and AI search are still pivoting, and they will keep pivoting. The real question is not whether your website will need to adapt. It is how hard adapting is going to be.

Sumi-e ink art: a figure turning smoothly with a shifting current, representing a website that can be adapted as AI search changes

On a Forged Site, adapting is an edit

Your site is clean code that we wrote and that we own. When the signals change — a new structured-data expectation, a new way assistants read a page, a new performance bar — we go and change it. There is nobody to wait for.

On a CMS, adapting is a negotiation

To make the same change on a WordPress site you may need a theme that supports it, a set of plugins that support it, and a core release that supports all of them at once. That is a negotiation between a theme author, a dozen plugin authors, and a release cycle that nobody in the room controls.

Any one of those authors can stop shipping updates. Some always do. And the most common outcome is not a dramatic break — it is a site that simply never gets updated to match where the world went, and quietly stops being recommended.

To be fair about it: this is not a criticism of WordPress the product. WordPress is genuinely good at what it was built to do, and the plugin ecosystem is the reason it took over the web. The problem is the dependency chain, and the dependency chain is precisely what you inherit on the day you need to change something quickly. Retrofitting a Forged Site is, in the honest and unglamorous sense, a thousand times easier — because there is only one author to negotiate with, and we work here.

No Lock-In

Your Marketing Stack, Your Choice

A Forged Site does not trap you in our marketing services. Measure whatever you want to measure, with whoever you want to measure it.

Sumi-e ink art: many ink threads converging cleanly into one instrument, representing analytics and marketing tools wired into a single site

What we wire in

SEO, ads, analytics, and whatever metrics matter to your business get connected properly — not bolted on with a plugin and hoped over.

  • Google Analytics 4
  • Google Search Console
  • Google Ads conversion tracking
  • Google Tag Manager
  • Meta pixels
  • Semrush
  • Call tracking (dynamic number insertion)
  • CRM webhooks

We will work with your marketing company

Whoever you choose. You are not required to buy marketing from us to have your site work with theirs, and we are not precious about it.

Two practical conditions, and they are the same two for anybody: there has to be a public API or a documented integration, and we have to be given proper access and keys.

And where we will tell you no

If a platform offers no way in — no API, no documented integration, nothing to connect into — then nobody can connect it. Not us, not your agency, not anyone. We will say that plainly instead of quoting you for work that cannot be done.

That is the whole answer to "am I locked in?" You are not. The site is yours, and so are the connections.

Where We Draw the Line

When a Forged Site Is the Wrong Answer

Forged is built for business, service, and membership websites — booking, member areas, gated content and custom back-ends all live comfortably on it. It is not a store, and we do not offer e-commerce on it.

If you need a real shopping cart — inventory, checkout, payments, shipping rules, sales tax, refunds — then a Forged Site is the wrong product for you, and we will say so in the first conversation rather than sell you the wrong thing and discover it together three months later.

For that work we build WooCommerce stores and custom Shopify builds — the right tools, properly used, by the same team.

Making the Move

A Low-Risk Switch

Nothing about leaving WordPress requires you to gamble with the site that is currently feeding your business.

No downtime

We build your Forged Site alongside your live WordPress site. Yours keeps serving customers until the new one is approved and switched on.

Your SEO transfers

Pages, blog history, and domain move over. Redirects are mapped, and we verify Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools after launch.

AI search, built in

Clean structured data and fast load ship as part of the build, so assistants can read and recommend you. It is in the site, not bolted on afterward.

Yours at term's end

When your term completes, or you pay it off early, your site and content are yours to take anywhere. We keep your old WordPress build on file, so nothing is lost.

Questions We Get

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Forged Site and a WordPress site?

WordPress runs your website through a content management system plus a stack of third-party plugins. A Forged Site is custom-built and self-contained, with no CMS and no plugins, so it carries only the code your site actually needs. In practice that means faster load times, a much smaller security surface to keep patched, and clean structured data that AI search can read.

Is a Forged Site really faster than WordPress?

Typically, yes, and we confirm it before launch. We target 100 on desktop and 90 or higher on mobile in Google PageSpeed. Typical small-business WordPress installations sit in the 50 to 70 range and slow further as plugins accumulate. Speed affects both how you rank and how many visitors stay long enough to contact you.

How do I make changes to my site if there is no login?

Two ways, both included with your plan. Email us in plain language, such as 'update our hours' or 'add a service page.' Or sign in to your dashboard at client.idfs.ai and message MOG, your AI Site Director, directly. You get a response and the work starts the same day, weekends included. Simple changes are frequently finished right away; heavier structural work is scheduled into business days with a human auditor in the loop.

What if the AI misunderstands what I asked for?

Then we fix it, usually within minutes. We will not quote you an accuracy number, because nobody can honestly promise they understood a request perfectly. The biggest variable was never the AI, it is how clearly the request was expressed, and that is on both sides of the conversation. A traditional agency has exactly the same failure mode. The difference is that there it takes days to discover the misunderstanding, and days again to correct it.

Does a human review changes before they go live?

Yes, by default, always. A human reviews before anything reaches your live site. Clients who become comfortable with the system may opt to be their own reviewer in exchange for near-instant turnaround, but that is your choice to make, not something we impose on you.

AI search keeps changing. What happens when it changes again?

We adapt your site. Because a Forged Site is clean code we wrote and own, adapting it is an edit we can make directly. A CMS site is a negotiation between a theme author, a dozen plugin authors, and a core release cycle, and any one of them can stop shipping updates. That dependency chain, not WordPress itself, is what makes a CMS site slow and expensive to retrofit when the ground moves.

Can I keep my own marketing company and my own analytics?

Yes. Your Forged Site is not locked to our marketing services. We wire in Google Analytics 4, Google Search Console, Google Ads conversion tracking, Google Tag Manager, Meta pixels, Semrush, call tracking with dynamic number insertion, and CRM webhooks. We will work with any marketing company you choose, provided there is a public API or documented integration and we are given proper access and keys. If a platform offers no way in, nobody can connect it, and we will tell you that plainly rather than pretend otherwise.

Can a Forged Site run an online store?

No, and we would rather say so up front. Forged is built for business, service, and membership websites. If you need a real shopping cart with inventory, checkout, payments, shipping, and tax, we will build you a WooCommerce or custom Shopify site instead.

Will switching from WordPress cause downtime or hurt my SEO?

The switch is designed to be low risk. We build your Forged Site alongside your existing WordPress site, so your current site keeps serving customers until the new one is approved. Your pages, blog history, and domain transfer over, redirects are mapped, and we verify Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools after launch. We also keep your previous WordPress build on file.

What are business citations, and does my plan include them?

A citation is any online listing of your business name, address, and phone number on directories and data aggregators that search engines and AI assistants cross-check to confirm you are a real business. Coverage depends on your plan: Forged Lite does not include a citation package, Basic covers Data Axle and Foursquare, Standard adds Neustar Localeze and Yellow Pages, Professional covers all major aggregators, and Pro adds 50 extra directory listings. Additional directory citations beyond your plan are $2 each.

How much does a Forged Site cost?

Plans start at $79.99/mo for Forged Lite (5 pages, 24-month term) and run to $449.99/mo for Forged Pro (35 pages, 12-month term). Every plan includes your site build, hosting, Cloudflare CDN, SSL and DDoS protection, backups, your client.idfs.ai dashboard, the MOG AI Site Director, and monthly Vigil accessibility and Catori SEO scans. Additional pages beyond your plan limit are $45 each, one time.

Do I own my site and content?

When your plan term completes, or you pay it off early, your site and content are yours to take anywhere. What does not travel with you are the ongoing plan services that run on our infrastructure, such as MOG, the monitoring agents, and support. We also keep your previous WordPress build on file, so nothing is lost in the move.
