Designing an e-Commerce site is one of the most important aspects of running a successful online store. Sales must be seen, check out must be obvious, and navigation has to be simple and clean. After years of putting together e-Commerce sites, we have found what works best for most clients and have made a checklist for how we make our own sites.
The design of the e-Commerce website must be kept as non-chaotic as possible. The front page will need to lead the customers to the products as easily as possible, but not distract them from actually shopping. Capturing their attention on the front page with Sales Ads is a great way to increase conversions. Also, the front page should only show things that will entice a customer to make a purchase and not list ideas that are irrelevant to them. List all of your elements and decide which ones are vital to making a sale. Prioritizing what information is most important and those that are least important is essential. Proper copy-writing to describe your items is vital and having clean crisp photography is also imperative. For example, on a product page, the image of the product, its title, description, availability, prices, etc. are obviously important.
EASILY FOUND CHECKOUT
It is nice when a customer adds something to their cart… but it is more important that they actually complete the purchase. Hidden, small shopping cart or checkout buttons are always a culprit in having a customer get frustrated and abandon their shopping cart. We have found having both a shopping cart and a checkout button that is clearly visible helps stop the abandon cart syndrome and therefore you will see an increase in your sales. Tracking abandoned carts is also key and our systems let us know what was left behind so that adjustments may be made to pricing or the checkout system.
STRATEGIC NAVIGATION PATHS
Having an easy navigation menu to follow for your product categories is important for bringing customers to the products they want. Allowing for sub navigation menus to help clients separate items by price, colors and features are also vital. Our navigation menus can be as simple or complicated as they need to be to make an easy product selection for your customers. Bringing clients to what you want them to see and buy is always important. Higher profit items are brought front and center through navigation menus so they are prompted to make a choice before searching for lower cost products.
CALL TO ACTION
Getting the customer to checkout and submit their payment is essential to operating an online store. By giving the user a well-placed checkout, shipping and payment options, we can ensure that you won’t lose clients. Also, implementing other options to keep them on the site can be placed, such as demos of software or free trials. This is always better than the alternative of the customer going to your competitor because they were not comfortable enough with the product.
